With the new year in full swing, starting a new workout regimen may be the last thing on many Bay Area residents’ minds, but now is the perfect time to re-charge and commit to a New Year’s resolution that anyone can follow. That’s what USA Fit San Francisco, a local marathon and half marathon training group that trains in San Francisco, challenges couch potatoes and beginning runners to do in 2016. USA Fit’s new 20-week training season will begin with an orientation event on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 8 to 9 a.m. near Lake Merced Park to introduce new and returning members to the group’s highly effective program and to give them a chance to meet their coaches and fellow members.
“We’re excited to see how much our group has grown and changed since we brought USA Fit San Francisco to the area,” says Organizer and Head Coach Wendy Louie, who started running in 2008 and has run ten marathons since. “Our coaches love the challenge, relaxation and freedom that running provides. We hope to pass that on to all of our members for the coming year, no matter their fitness level.”
For nearly a decade, USA Fit San Francisco has helped hundreds of beginning runners achieve a long-distance finish with little more than a drive and commitment to succeed.
Members meet each Saturday to train in their ability-based groups under the tutelage and encouragement of USA Fit San Francisco’s certified team of coaches. During the week, they follow a carefully devised training schedule, enjoy informational seminars on running- and fitness-related topics and enjoy occasional social events to continue the camaraderie off the pavement. This season’s target race is the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon on June 18.
“No matter how much you’ve run, walked or haven’t, we have a group for you to train with,” says Louie. “The only thing we ask our members to show up with is a goal and the passion to meet it. We take care of the rest.”
